This is definitely old news.

In fact I think they made a straight-to-video movie about it starring Jeff Daniels (but I could be wrong).

Anyway, I'm just really into aviation and whenever there's a special on TV about the first man to do this and the first man to fly that, they always have a special mention of the guy who floated away in a lawnchair.
