An update from Blair's blog: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ ... ry/Sports/

The major points of interest:

- Ricciardi isn't going to move from the $5M offer with Hillenbrand, he looks to be prepared to go to arbitration.

- There was a rumour going around that if the Jays are not able to get Molina, they would sign Piazza. But Blair says that Ricciardi hasn't contacted Mike's agent for over a month.

- Molina is also looking for a 2 year/ 12 M deal. While J.P. is not going over 1 year/ 4M.

It appears he will be relegated to split-duties with Molina.

Hillenbrand avoids arbitration with Jays

2/9/2006 1:57:47 PM

TORONTO (CP) - Shea Hillenbrand and the Toronto Blue Jays are nearing agreement on a one-year contract.

Hillenbrand will settle for $5.8 million US next season, avoiding arbitration set for next Tuesday.

He made $3.895 million last season and was seeking a raise to $6.7 million.

The Blue Jays countered with an offer of $5 million.

Hillenbrand hit .291 with 18 homers and 82 RBIs in his first season with Toronto.

Yeah, they also agreed to a contract with Walker yesterday as well. Everything appears to be finished with in terms of team-building now, it's now up to the team to perform.

Great off-season though, the only guy on the "wish list" the Jays weren't able to get was Brian Giles, but I think he may have been planning to stay in San Diego the entire time. He was just waiting until they gave him a fair contract offer.

A few moves to report:

Burnett and Zaun were placed on the DL today. As a result, Tallet (23 IP in ST without a run 8-o )and Phillips will be on the opening day roster come Tuesday.

Quiroz was also claimed by the Mariners.

Quiroz could not of been any more of a flop. He was ranked so high on prospect lists a few years ago look where he is now nowhere he is garbage and I am happy we got rid of the injury prone useless catcher.

Any thoughts on the Jays designating Vince Perkins for assignment to fit room for Tallet?
