Why does this guy still have no respect in rankings and such? He's been successful on every level was a top 5 closer last year. The kid is only 23 and pitches in a pitchers park. Am I crazy? I think he should go in the top 5 or 6 rounds... especially considering im in a keeper league.

Because he's a closer and you never take a closer not named Mariano that early, never ever ever ever. I agree he's underrated, maybe top 4-5 closers even, but he's still a closer, and they're never worth a top draft pick.

I'm in a keeper league and I can draft him number 47 overall. It's tempting because he is definetely a top closer and a very safe pick.

The Nationals had a fluke first half and will likely not win as many games this year (31 saves in the first half, 16 saves in the 2nd half).

I have heard rumors of the fences also being moved up to make it less of a pitchers' ballpark. Can anyone confirm this?

How is a closer a safe pick? Anyone remember this guy named Gagne? People were taking this guy first round. There is NO such thing as a 'safe pick' when it comes to closers unless you're snagging someone like Rivera in the 15th round IMO.

I think those would be the key words right there.

cordero is sorely underrated. i'll be targeting him next year (just like last year) and expecting 30+ saves (not 40; as was said, the first half of last year was a fluke and unless the nats improve a lot in the off-season, he shouldn't get nearly as many ops) and good ratios. he won't K as many as K-rod or lidge, and gagne is still gagne and hoffman is still hoffman, but he shoudl be a solid top 10 closer next year.

Well, the main reason, though already covered, is that while the Nationals aren't terrible, they won't win as many games. Cordero is great, don't get me wrong. But 35ish saves is what I'd bank him at, and then you consider the WW guys every year, and I wouldn't buy Cordero at a high price. If Cordero fell to 6th - 7th or so, I'd consider him. Not necessarily like top 50, though he's on the border.

I'll bet that Cordero's ERA falls a lot closer to 3.00 than to 2.00.
