Free agent B.J. Ryan recently told a friend he does not want to deal with the "stress" of pitching for the Yankees. He's expected to take a closer's job elsewhere.
We wonder what he'd think about the stress of pitching for the Red Sox? Maybe he'll stay away from that situation, too. If the Yankees can't re-sign Tom Gordon, who may prefer to close elsewhere, they'll probably target Bobby Howry or Kyle Farnsworth as a setup man for Mariano Rivera. They're also looking at left-handers like Ricardo Rincon, Mike Myers and Joey Eischen. Nov. 18 - 3:05 am et

So he thinks the stress of closing somewhere else is less than setting up in NY?

A big disappointment. Hopefully he changes his mind, but it looks like they will have to go in another direction. This might make us give Gordon three years as stupid as it sounds. I would still rather have Gordon as the primary set up man than Fransworth or Howry.

Gordon is an absolute must sign now. I wanted him back anyway, but they absolutely need him now. Go after Howry too. And Rincon.

Hmmm. Ryan apparently doing Clueless Cashman a favor by announcing his lameness to the world ahead of time.

Gordon is definately not a must sign. They should look at him more in detail now, but by no means should they sign him to a 3 year contract. I'd be cautious of signing him for 2.

I do want Howry, have from the beginning. Rincon looks like the only lefty option available. I hope they also make a run at Octavio Dotel who should be cheap and could return to dominant form.

Who said 3 years? :-[

Gordon is a guy that gets the job done and with so many questions about all the other guys out there, you need something you know will perform.

Rincon is Right Handed by the way. At 26 and coming off 2 great seasons, he's a great pickup. Dotel would be a great risk-reward bet IMO as well.
