Last night he pitched 6 IP with 8 Ks and only allowed 1 ER. ;-D

Umm, I know I haven't been around much lately but what's with the Barney? Did you lose a bet? :-D

No, I'm just a really big Barney fan. :-b

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Pelfrey could be in the mix for this weekend against Florida. Various scenarios with Pedro, Oliver, Lima, and Pelfrey. Maine is the only one guaranteed a start so far against the Fish.

Pelfrey demoted. With the way Maine is pitching can't say I mind. Should get recalled when the rosters expand.

Conversation w/ Mike Pelfrey

enough to talk with me for a Conversation at MetsBlog...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

First of all, are you familiar with the Mets' past - I mean, obviously,
you've been drafted by them, but you grew up in Wichita - what is your
experience with the team, having watched them from afar...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

I don't really know a whole lot about the past...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

That's probably a good thing...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

Of course, I know about the World Series. I know they had the Subway
Series. Beside that, I know they made some big moves this off-season...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

That's a good thing, because, you know, in the past...there have been
prospects that the media gets on, and, obviously, you've drawn a lot of
attention from the media over the last week or so - how do you handle
that? Do you feel pressure from that? Do you welcome it? Or do you
take it on and let that fuel you? How do you deal with that type of
stuff?...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

Growing up, you get kind of used to it. You're always hearing things.
In high school I was hearing things, in college I was hearing things.
And, you learn to just block it out and not worry about that stuff. The
only thing you can really control is what's on the field. The other
stuff will take care of itself...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

How do you think things may have been different had you come out right
from high school...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

After going to college, I can now say that had I went out of high school
I wouldn't have made it. I don't think I was ready mentally.
Physically I might have been fine, but mentally I don't think I could've
been mentally tough enough to handle it...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

So, last week, you had that story in the Daily News - when something
like that comes out do you go and pick up a copy, do you check that out?
I mean, that's gotta be pretty cool, no?...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

Nah, I mean, that's just stuff - if people wanna talk to you, and they
wanna interview you you do it. And that's it after that, you know...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

I heard that your home town paper from Wichita is gonna do a piece on
you. Which is a bigger deal, that or the Daily News, seriously?...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

It's all the same. News is news...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

Really? That's cool. I mean, good for you...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

I mean, you just kind of sit there and listen to stuff, and you read
stuff, and it's pretty much when you read it and you hear it it's in one
ear and out the other...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

Well, that's good. I'm impressed. I mean, I would think, you're a
young guy, college is one thing, but you get to this level and...I know
you're gonna try and tell me it's not that big of a deal, but, I mean,
you know that the team is interested and excited and the fans are
excited...I know you're aware of that. You have to be. And you seem to
be handling it very well...

When you were in the major-league camp, during the spring, what was the
biggest thing you took from that experience...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

I talked to Tom Glavine about his change-up, I talked to Billy Wagner
about throwing inside, and, you know, I look at myself and I look at
other guys and they're more consistent. They're able to throw any pitch
at any time. And that's where I need to get to and what I need to be
able to do...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

What was your favorite team growing up...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

Well, in the mid-west, as a little kid you always watch what's on TV...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

Right, so, Braves, Cardinals, Cubs...

Mike Pelfrey, from New York Mets...

Yeah, Braves were on and the Cubs were on WGN - and you take what you
can see...

Matthew Cerrone, from MetsBlog.com...

Well, listen, thanks, Mike, I appreciate it...
