okay so i like scott eyre and all but $5.5mm per year? christ, remmy and hawk were only $3mm per year, give or take. yeah he fits the teams needs but we're not the yankees. am i the only confused person here?
Rugby: If they are indeed paying 5.5 million per year for a lefty setup/specialist, then my perception of the Cubs management after the Neifi Perez signing was accurate.

LOL ..
Thats alot of bling for a lefty out of the pen .. Must have been that MVP vote
Scott Eyre will make $3 million next year and $4 million in 2007 under the terms of his three-year deal. His player option for 2008 is worth $4 million.
Eyre will also receive annual bonuses of $100,000 for 70 appearances and an additional $200,000 if he pitches in 80 games. There is also wording that would give him additional money should he become the Cubs' closer, though there's no reason to expect that to happen. Also, a no-trade clause is included in the deal Nov. 18 - 2:35 am et

That's a much better deal. His $4M player option in the 3rd year will likely make him pretty useless by that point, but that's still not that much money. I wouldn't call it a great deal, but definitely not bad.
Anyone notice how there aren't that many good lefty relievers out there right now? Wagner and Guardado don't count as they will close most likely wherever they go. Ryan will probably, but not for sure, setup. Outside of them, who else is there? Marte, Rhodes, King, and Gonzalez. Gonzalez will likely close, and the rest are not that good.
