Byrnes or Podsednik?

Postby ramble2 » Thu Jun 19, 2003 9:15 pm

Obviously neither Byrnes nor Podsednik is going to make up for losing Guerrero, but I need someone to stick in the lineup. I'm leading my league in HRs & RBIs pretty comfortably, and could use some stolen base help. More importantly, though, I'm looking for the better player. Right now I've got Podsednik for the stolen bases, but I'm considering dropping him for Byrnes - who's been tearing it up and gets some stolen bases too.

Let's hear what the forum has to say...

I'd rather have Byrnes. He has more pop in a better lineup.

I would rather have Byrnes as long as he plays and that is not a
given. Posodnik is solid as a starter.

I've been thru this too many times, but here goes again.

Byrnes is the starting center fielder. Period. There is a write-in campaign to get the guy in the All-Star game (no, it won't work, but he's been that key to the A's). I can't believe he hasn't been picked up and become somebody else's most productive player.

Byrnes will make the loss of Vlad much less painful. If the A's can find a home for T Long, he might want to keep a bag packed.

Oakland has 3 young stars in it's line-up. Tejada, Chavez, and Byrnes. The guy plays all out.

Once again he showed his all around value, going 2-4 with a HR, 3 RBI, 2 runs, and a SB today. Watch an A's game. Podsednik won't be on your team after. He may be a solid starter, but Byrnes is a stud.

I'd go with Byrnes. He's firing on all cylinders right now.
Yes doctor, I am sick.
Sick of those who are spineless.
Sick of those who feel self-entitled.
Sick of those who are hypocrites.
Yes doctor, an army is forming.
Yes doctor, there will be a war.
Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Byrnes owners have known this for a month or so, but here's some news for those who still call Byrnes a 'fill-in' player, or claim he doesn't start everyday, or blindly state that Dye and Long will push him out of the line-up.

Ken Macha met with his six outfielders Friday, and told them that the only fixture among them is Eric Byrnes in center field.
Macha told the other five (Jermaine Dye, Chris Singleton, Terrence Long, Billy McMillon, Adam Piatt) that they will rotate between the remaining two spots until someone steps up as Byrnes did when he got his chance. There's little doubt Dye will eventually claim one of the spots when he's 100 percent, but he and Byrnes are the only A's outfielders with any fantasy value at the moment.
