I thought we could track his contract negotiation here.
The Yankees are now willing to give Hideki Matsui a four-year deal for $11 million-$12 million per year, but they still aren't certain it will be enough. Matsui, who is trying to convince the Yankees' of his willingness to play for other teams, could hold out for the five-year, $55 million contract that J.D. Drew received a year ago. Still, it's expected that something will get done soon. The Tuesday deadline is actually rather flexible. Nov. 11 - 3:58 am et Source: New York Post
Looks like he might be a bit more expensive then we all bargained for but it shouldn't be a problem. He remains atop the Yankees priority list. Hopefully a deal gets done soon, though I hope it's less than 5 years. That's a long-term contract that has burned the Yankees in the past.
Newsday reports that the Yankees' next offer to Hideki Matsui could be for four years and $50 million. That'd be quite an increase over what they originally hoped to pay. Arn Tellem, Matsui's agent, is scheduled to arrive in New York on Saturday night to continue negotiations. The Yankees are talking to Brian Giles in case they can't re-sign Matsui. Hopefully they're talking to Brian Giles either way, as a CF
4 years is a bit much, but at 35, he should still be worth the money.

Matsui is worth the $50 M. But I like him in center, acquiring gGiles and putting him in left. Personally, I think Matsui's defense is quite good, but that's just me. He represents a complete player, one of very few.

I'm pretty sure Giles is a much better fielder than Matsui...

Yeah, I don't see the logic in that. Hideki's a bit of a spaz out there.
The Yankees and outfielder Hideki Matsui are nearing an agreement on a four-year deal worth about $50 million, The Associated Press reports. That'd be quite a raise for a player who was little better than expected while fulfilling the $21 million contract he received three years ago, and considering that he's now 31, he's a worse bet for the future than he was back then. Of course, since he brings in revenue just by being on the team, he doesn't need to be a $12 million-per-year player to be worth the money. Nov. 14 - 7:47 pm et Source: The Associated Press
