Ok, today I wake up at 8 a.m. and dressed to go to court. I'm going to fight a parking ticket I got. I get my suit ready and got my lines all rehearsed. So I get to the courthouse and guess what.....court's closed. Sure I know it's Veteran's Day, but my summon's clearly said that I show up November 11, 2005. The police officer looks at my work and tells me court's closed and the cop who issued it messed up and I'd just have to take another day off work <img src=/forums/images/smiles/kiss.gif> .

F that you should get off!! If the cop doesn't show up they have to drop the case. I'd call BS on that and not go

I agree... part of justice system is that certain things, like court dates, are absolute. If you were scheduled to appear in court today, and the courthouse is closed, the "ball's in their court" so to speak. You may receive a letter that advises you on a new court date, particularly if others were in the same situation. But if you don't hear anything from here, I would consider yourself innocent.
If you're a battery, you're either working or you're dead....

It's not about the cop not showing up, it's about the judge, the bailiff, the janitor, everyone not showing up. The court house was closed. The problem he's speaking of, if I understand it right, is that the cop told him to come to court on a day when the courts were closed, not that the cop just didn't show up. In this case, just to be sure, I'd call a local lawyer and explain what happened and ask him what you should do. They're not going to charge you for petty stuff like that. But it is NY, so you never know.

Yea tell me about it. NY is freaking expensive...I went to a NY Deli here in Denver the other day and it was 12 dollars for a turkey sandwich chips and a root beer..

If the first lawyer you try wants $$$ for a quick answer, hang up and try another one.

well, the bronx supreme court was closed, but you could still enter building; the only thing is that people with recent criminal were the only people being seen. everyone else was sent home. i was thinking about not showing up, but you know you just can't not show up to court.
How do you fight a parking ticket? Either you were parked where you shouldn't be, or you were not. Pretty easy one to figure out, and not sure how to get off if you're guilty.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
