All Canadians should observe two minutes of silence on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
1.5 millions Canadians volunteered to fight in the first and second world wars (almost 10% of our population at the time) and 110,000 died so that we could enjoy peace and liberty.
I just realized that it's unusual that Rememberance Day and Veterans Day have fallen on the same day...
Let this be a celebration of the war heroes from both the United States and our beloved canuckleheads in the north!
I shall make a toast this evening and drink a Molson in one hand and a Sam Adams in the other! Salut!

You know both holidays came about because of the end of World War I...
I served in the US Navy during peace time (80s), so while I'm not a war veteran, I still proudly served.
Thanks to all who posted their support of the troops. The young men and women who are currently serving are selfless and brave individuals who deserve ALL of our respect. That statement transcends politics, as no matter how you feel about Iraq, George Dubbya, etc., the US soldiers, sailors and airmen need our spoort and prayers.
Thanks again for even thinking to start a Veteran's Day thread.
I served as well for a spell. It's a crappy job in peace time, imagine what it's like during a war
I'm happy that there is a special day set aside for vets but kind of sad that we need to tell people to pay their respects and pretty mad that it's no longer a statutory holiday in Canada.
