Just look at Derek Jeter and his two gold gloves, in what other sport could you give one of the worst defensive shortstops the award which is supposed to go to a good defensive shortstop.

Writer's don't vote for Gold Gloves, mgrs do.

Clemens was in reality the best pitcher, but 13 wins just won't get you a CY, no matter the era. Interesting that it was Clemens 2nd best era+ ever. He blew them away in era+. Win Shares was closer if you only count pitching win shares. Carpenter was only 3 behind, not a huge amount. He had a -4 in batting, which took away from his overall total. Carpenter did lead in QS, and was 3rd in Vorp. I would have had Clemens 1, Carpenter 2, but he was a good choice.

Too bad Carp pitched like crap in Sept because I bet he had Clemens in some of the categories (dips, vorp, etc).

Clemens had the better ERA. That does not automaticly make him the better pitcher.

You are right if you strictly go by fantasy categories. But this is reality. Clemens had the better season.

Back it up with stats.

Clemens wins on RA, ERA, ERC, DIP by almost a full run. A pitcher's job is to prevent the other team from scoring. This category is seriously not even close.

Clemens beats him in WHIP, BAA, OBP, SLG against. Better VORP. I think he had better win shares also but I can't find it right now.

Carpenter beat him by slightly in K/9, went longer in his starts (but Clemens also was battling injuries) and by a wide margin in Ws which has very little to do with a pitcher's performance.

With Carpenter winning the Cy, one thing is for sure. He will be the most overvalued pitcher going into the 06 draft. I will avoid him like the plague. :-D

That sounds like instigatin' to me. :-D
With D. Lee and Pujols being so close in number there isn't a chance Lee wins it.
D. Lee - OPS 1.080 - WS 37
Pujols - OPS 1.039 - WS 38

Not only is it really close between DLee and Pujols, but DLee faded in the 2nd half (Faded compared to what he did in the 1st, still very good.) Pujols continued to hit while Lee slowed down... Plus the whole Cardinals winning thing. Pujols needs and MVP, stupid Barry kept taking them away.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

I don't quite understand this. He has always had the talent but was never able to put it together, mostly cause of injuries. Granted expecting a repeat of this year is a bad idea but his 2004 year shows that he isn't a fluke.

My prediction is that he ends up somewhere between 04 and 05, a lot closer to 04.

He'll be a top 25 pitcher maybe top 15. Not top 5 or 10 like more people will be predicting.
