If Clemens got "ripped off" this year then it looks like the baseball gods are evening things up. He never should have beat RJ for the award last year!!

Clemens had the better ERA. That does not automaticly make him the better pitcher.
You are right if you strictly go by fantasy categories. But this is reality. Clemens had the better season.

So you are saying that a flawed system works b/c Clemens' 04 cancels out his 05? That makes a lot of sense. We know there is a problem but let's continue anyway!

Clemens wins on RA, ERA, ERC, DIP by almost a full run. A pitcher's job is to prevent the other team from scoring. This category is seriously not even close.
Clemens beats him in WHIP, BAA, OBP, SLG against. Better VORP. I think he had better win shares also but I can't find it right now.
Carpenter beat him by slightly in K/9, went longer in his starts (but Clemens also was battling injuries) and by a wide margin in Ws which has very little to do with a pitcher's performance.

Carpenter was sixth in the NL in pitching win shares; Clemens was #1, Willis #2.
Clemens dominated the NL in pitching runs, with 56, Willis was third (behind Pettitte) with 44, and Carpenter was fifth with 41.
Clemens was #1 in the NL in ERA+ at 247, Pettitte was second at 194, Willis third, and Carp fourth.
Clemens run support was only 3.58 compared to Carp's 5.51.
To add on, Clemens ERA and WHIP were both better, as well.

Translation: Carpenter was NOT the best pitcher in NL. Thanks Dave for further proving my point.
We all know that the best players/pitchers/teams do not always take home the hardware.
