Yeah, this is what I'd go with. Using hits and walks is essentially the same as using OBP, except it sort of counts getting on base double, which is weird.
I wouldn't do it, either, but isn't the point in finding a happy balance?? If you have hitters that take a lot of walks, why have other cats that benefit them further??
That's kind of like counting strikeouts for pitchers, and then counting WHIP--but not counting batters that struck out towards the total WHIP. It's kinda silly.
I don't think anyone actually says BA
helps guys that take walks. But counting hits instead of BA
hurts guys that take walks, and that's weird.
