Another award I'm not going to disagree with because it doesn't represent what baseball followers expect to. Personally Colon would be #3 behind Buerhle and Santana in my vote for best AL pitcher this season.
A bad choice, though not a ludicrous one. I don't think Mo deserved to finish top 3- for me, a year in which a closer wins or comes close ought only to be one where he's lights out (ok, got that one) but also the starters suck, for instance a season where there was no-one with both 15+ wins and a sub-3 ERA, or no 20-game winners.

Santana beat Colon in pitching runs 45-25, had an ERA a half run better, had 4 more win shares, and allowed 23 less baserunners while pitching more innings.

Horrible choice, way to much weight put on wins here Santana should've won it, with Colon finishing second. I also can't believe that Rivera finished ahead of Santana Actually, I think that the worst part is that he also won the award voted on by the players:
Colon, who won his first Cy Young and became the first Angels pitcher so honored since Dean Chance in 1964, has also been named the AL's top pitcher by The Sporting News and fellow players, who voted him a Players Choice Award.
Not a surprise. What is a surprise is Colon won in a walk. Santana only got 3 votes (probably 2 by Twin writer's), and Rivera stole 8 votes. I really don't see how anyone could have voted Rivera over Colon/Santana/Buehrle, or Garland. The one key stat is 6.02. Colon was 7th in run support, while Santana was at 4.70.

Now surely you cant be giving the because Rivera didnt win it. I would have gone with Santana over Colon but dont really believe Rivera should even been in the mix. The award should go to a starting pitcher imo not someone who comes in and pitches a few innings a week.
Actually I gave the because I thought Santana deserved it and I hate the fact that the pitcher with the most wins gets the most recognition. I never said a word about Rivera.
