Devil Rays... it wont be long

I'm not a devil ray fan but they are starting to accumulate some serious talent. I mean lets take a look at this...

Crawford
Huff
Gomes
Cantu
Lugo

and you still have Delmon Young, Upton, and Gathright. 8-o

Kazmir is developing and could have a very nice year in 2006. Devil Rays 07 AL EAST Champs... :-b imagine that...

Don't forget Baldelli ;-D

But top prospects don't always pan out. That's why Sweet Lou wanted to increase payroll so they can go out and at least get 1 or 2 proven guys to build around.

Yeah it looks very nice for the D-Rays. However, they seriously need some pitching. With all of that offensive talent, surely they can trade for some.

they're about 2 or 3 years off from making a serious run, depending how long it will take them to accumulate quality starting pitching.

You've got to think they'll trade some of their OF talent for some pitching. There's not enough room out there for Crawford/Baldelli/Gomes/ Gathright/Young.

Exactly... if Kazmir develops as expected and they get a couple good pitchers in there that could be a very very scary team down the road.

yeah, the rays will be able to compete more in a year or so. the offense will be fine, but they'll really make strides when they draft and steal[kazmir] more pitching talent.

It will be interesting to see what they will do with Upton and his difficulties feilding his position.

I agree. They needed to get some nice vets with post-season experience to set the pace for the young guys to follow.

They aren't going anywhere without a pitching upgrade. I have to think Huff, Gomes and Gaithright are available right now for some decent pitching.
