Hey guys, my family and I are building a sort of lounge/hang out room and we want to get a TV for it. The room isn't that big so we don't want to get a HUGE TV that takes over the room, so we were thinking something around 42". Our price limit is probably about $2,000. We have been doing research for a long time and we still havn't settled on anything yet. We would prefer a thinner TV but they are all out of our price range once you get to the size that we want - the Plasmas looks really nice but they are too expensive. The LCD's look great but at 42" they are too expensive. We think that we will probably go with a rear-projection TV, which tend to have depths of about 20-23" and you can get good big ones for less money. Our current favorite is this Samsung one that is 43", 20" deep, and only $999:

If you guys have any opinions and/or advice about these kind of things it would be much appreciated

I always consult C-Net before bying any kind of electronics. They have very extensive reviews of TV's by size, price range, brand and rating. Browse through the site and see what they suggest.

Would a 2003 model DLP TV have better picture quality than a 2005 model CRT?

Just bought that one and it's pretty nice. Clear picture, Sony, not too big in the back.

Did you buy it online or from an actual store, and how much did you get it for?

We bought it from circuit city. I forget the actual price, but I think it was mid-2000 when paired with a surround sound system, stand, and warranty.

You should be able to get a lot of different Plasma's for under 2,000.
