How would your 1st round look?

Postby cordscords » Sun Nov 06, 2005 4:43 pm

It's not too early to have an idea of how the first 12 picks of a draft would turn out. Here's my top 12:

1. Albert Pujols
2. Alex Rodriguez
3. Vlad Guerrero
4. Miguel Cabrera
5. Mark Teixeira
6. Bobby Abreu
7. Alfonso Soriano
8. Johan Santana
9. Manny Ramirez
10. David Ortiz
11. Derrek Lee
12. Jason Bay

I'd probably rank Ortiz and Ramirez ahead of Soriano. Drop Abreu dow below Bay and perhaps move Bay up a notch. But otherwise it looks good. It's the 2nd 12 where it becomes tricky.

I couldn't make my mind up with the 12th pick. Lee might be a bit over rateed next season going in and Bay may go as high as the 12th pick putting up even better #'s that Abreu in most cats.

2. Alex Rodriguez
3. Miguel Cabrera
4. Vlad Guerrero
5. Mark Teixeira
6. Manny Rameriez
7. David Ortiz
8. Alfonso Soriano
9. Johan Santana
10. Bobby Abreu
11.Gary Sheffield
12. D.Lee/Jason Bay/Ichiro/Oswalt/Tejada

Something to the effect of

1. Pujols
2. A-Rod
3. Vlad
4. Miggy
5. Ortiz
6. Tex
7. Manny
8. Soriano
9. Santana
10. Abreu

No one clear cut for me at 11/12...the usual suspects, but it's too early...

I am suprised to see people having Bay ranked that high. He wouldnt be in my top 12. I am not sure how it will be before my drafts next year but I would say something like this.

1. Alex Rodriguez
2. Albert Pujols
3. Vlad
4. Mark Texiera
5. Manny Ramirez
6. David Ortiz
7. Miguel Cabrera
8. A. Soriano
9. Bobby Abreu
10. M. Tejada

I realize most people will have Santana in there top 12 but I wont take a pitcher in the 1st round so he dosent crack mine.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

I'll weigh in:

1. Albert Pujols
2. Alex Rodriguez
3. Vladimir Guerrero
4. David Ortiz
5. Mark Teixeira
6. Miguel Cabrera
7. Johan Santana
8. Manny Ramirez
9. Alfonso Soriano
10. Jason Bay
11. Bobby Abreu
12. Clemens/Pedro/Peavy

12 is tough. There is no sure fire hitter to take. Tejada is not far and away above all other shortstops anymore, now that Michael Young, Figgins, Reyes, Rollins, Furcal and Jeter (and maybe Peralta) are all just about right there with him. Say what you will about Pedro and Clemens, but I trust them more than any other major league starter besides Johan, provided Clemens comes back. Last year, Schmidt, Prior, Schilling, RJ and (sorta) Sheets were elite starters who had disappointing, injurious seasons, and only Dontrelle and Chris Carpenter finished w better fantasy numbers than Clemens and Pedro, and I don't expect either of them to do it again. Peavy's only getting better, the Padres just need to win more.

Chone Figgins almost cracks the first round, I think. He sets you at 2nd, 3rd, or the OF, and you can take the best player available at those positions later in the draft.
