I was going to trade Javier Vazquez and Preston Wilson for Larry Walker, would I be giving up too much? I really want Walker as I like him, and I want to pick up Brian Lawrence from FA. Does this sound like a stupid trade?
To be honest, I don't know either. This trade would be a huge gamble. It sounds risky, but not stupid.
Vazquez plus Wilson for Walker and Lawrence sounds fairly even when you break it down that way, but Vazquez and Wilson are worth far more than Walker alone. In fact, Vazquez and Walker should be valued fairly equally. Before you do anything else, see if you can get a decent player added to the deal along with Walker.
On the whole, though, it comes down to whether you want to roll the dice on Walker. When he's healthy, he's an unbelievable fantasy force; when he's hurt, he'll leave you pining for Vazquez.
Anyway, I'd agree to this deal if:
a) Your starting pitching is deep enough that you're not relying on Vazquez to carry you.
b) You receive an upgrade at another position along with Walker.
c) You're willing to accept high risks to receive large rewards. The less other risks you have on your team, the easier this will be.
Hope to hear more input on this one - I know that opinions on a trade like this will vary widely.
I never thought about doing a two for two, I'll have to see what he has. I really want to trade vazquez for something because I have 4 other good starters and I could could pick up Wolf or Lawrence for backup.
Here is his team:
C LaRue, Jason (C-Cin)
1B Olerud, John (1B-Sea)
2B Izturis, Cesar (2B-LA)
3B Rolen, Scott (3B-Phi)
SS Jeter, Derek (SS-NYY)
OF Burnitz, Jeromy (RF-NYM)
OF Walker, Larry (RF-Col)
OF Mondesi, Raul (RF-Tor)
Util Hunter, Torii (CF-Min)
Bench Cedeno, Roger (CF, RF-NYM)
Bench Fullmer, Brad (DH-Ana)
I would like to get Rolen or Jeter (already tried) if possible, though I might be able to use Olerud, as I have no true 1st baseman, just a combo of Kent and Fick.
Have you tried something like Vazquez/Wilson/Cabrera for Walker/Jeter? It's worth a shot, at least, and even if the other guy rejects the offer, he might counter with something interesting.
Thanks for the compliment, cwebb, but I'm afraid I have a lot to learn before I reach your mastery of fantasy trades... What's your take on a deal for Walker?
