Run Ad Aware, Spy Bot, Disk Cleanup and Defrag your computer.

Remove any stupid programs and delete icons, shortcuts and system tray programs you don't use.

You can also check Services and turn off any programs that automatically start that you don't use.

Try reinstalling the keyboard/mouse.

Also, you or your gf may have spilled something on the laptop. In that case you may have to return it.

Try another keyboard... btw you can get a wireless keyboard and mouse that rule for like 25 bucks.

Then you can see if its hardware or software related?

USB keyboard? If so make sure your USB drivers are updated.
