19 team points league and I can protect 5 “minor leaguers”. If I protect less, I can participate in the early draft (Kendrick –AALA, Saltalamacchia (sp?)-ATL, James-ATL, JUpton-ARI (if he signs)) to fill any vacancies. Which of these are worthy keepers? TIA.
Reyes, Anthony SP STL
LaRoche, Andy 3B LA
Jackson, Conor 1B ARI
Gordon, Alex 3B KC
Hansen, Craig RP BOS
Maholm, Paul SP PIT
Olsen, Scott SP FLA

Alex Gordon - have to keep him
Conor Jackson - he is a 1B now and forever
Anthony Reyes - injury past but very polished
Andy LaRoche - another 3B so if you only want 1 take Gordon, but he is less risky then the other guys
Olsen/Hansen - Depends if you want a starter or closer, Olsen recently had an arm injury so you might want to stay away till you see how he comes back from that.

no gordon????? gordon has to be kept,,, i would love to add kendrick or upton to this team, but no way you throw gordon back for a chance at those 2....

Thanks for the help ... decision date will be 15 Dec for a 15 Jan draft. Upton will not be eligible unless he is signed. I anticipate I would pick 5th if I kept 4 players.
Would a Olsen/Hansen/Maholm trade for Kendrick be fair and an upgrade? Every team but one has used their yearly swapouts (three).
Closers are a premium due to to inning limits (as well as no penalty for a blown save). I would hate for Hansen to be closing for the Sox next year and the next five on another team (can only keep a player 4 years plus one year as a rookie exception). Thanks again!
the two I would cut would be Olsen and Maholm. Since you are cutting them, you would esentially be trading Hansen for Kendrick, which is interesting, but as a Sox fan, I would use my heart, not my head when it comes to the unknown (how any prospect could fare in the Bigs), and hold on to Hansen.

given your situation, i would try to offer Reyes in place of Hansen in that deal... Kendrick is the best player in my oppinion, so if he doesn't go for Reyes/Olsen/Malholm, then i would bite the bullet and give up Hansen .. the sox are actively looking to aquire bullpen help, so i dont know if that helps or hurts his case
the 4 i would keep:
Gordon
Laroche
Jackson
Hansen
Reyes is borderline for me, depends on what prospects are left to choose from

one week to decide and I am leaning towards the five above ... there is no chance on a trade up for Kendric, Clement, or Salty. Are the Cards offering Morris arbitration mean they want him or that they know he won't accept and want the pick if someone else signs him? (real Q: is there a spot in the rotation for him?) Thanks!!
