STATS HELP

Postby Lofunzo » Sat Oct 29, 2005 8:09 pm

I am looking for a site that lists fielding stats, especially for OF. Any help is appreciated. Especially those stats that show that Damon's defense is on the decline. ;-) Thanks. ;-D

I checked ESPN but was looking for something else, if there is better for this.

Haven't seen a lot of 2005 stats, yet. Hardball Times has their gold gloves listed, but not the full date. David Pinto at baseball Musings will produce the Prob Model of Range at some point. Tangotiger has his "fans rating" posted already.

Not sure what other defensive statistics you are looking for other than FPCT, RF, or ZR. Damon's ZR shows a pretty steady decline, his 2005 numbers (.874) being the worst of his CF career. Defensive Win Shares is a bit of a dubious stat, but Damon ranked 4th (Wells, Sizemore, Rowand) among AL CF. UZR numbers I don't think hit the sites for another month or two.

Thanks, guys. Which 1 do you feel is most important?? Based on definition, I would say ZR, especially for an OF. There are a ton of balls that they should get to but don't and they get scored as a hit.

Any idea where I can get a site that lists his fielding stats for the past 5 or so years?? ESPN claims to have them but their links don't work.

None are really the most important, without looking at them combined you sort of lose the context. Of the three ZR is probably has the strongest tie actual performance but using it as a basis for judgement is pretty weak.

If I were to go with 1 defensive statistic as the most telling I would probably use Fielding Runs Above Replacement. Damon was about 14 RAR in 2005, again one of the lowest scores in his career.
