I think what was said above is accurate. The Mets need a big bat so Jacobs future with the team depends entirely on where they can plug in that bat. I hope that everything falls into place so that he gets his shot.
Jacobs has expressed an strong interest and desire to play first. I don't see him being very happy with us if we move him back to C so we might be stuck with him at first if we want him long-term. I hope the big bat we get is Giles, and hopefully move Cameron for a catcher (just spitballing here, really. I just really want Giles).
I've never seen Jacobs catch but most of the scouting reports I have come across suggest that he's pretty deficient defensively there. I don't think we have to worry too much about him being moved back there.
There is an article in the Post that says the Mets are interested in Julio Franco. A Franco signing isn't particularly exciting in itself but it's a good sign that Omar is serious about giving 1B to Jacobs.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Are these numbers for real? He is listed as a Catcher on CBS but only played 1B last year? Help.

Is he a sleeper?
He was a hot pickup right when Piazza got hurt. He cooled off but still could be a decent pickup.

LOL
I called that one about two weeks ago I was half joking about Franco, but its nice to see that Omar still pays attention
I disagree. Looking at his minor league stats I think his power is legitimate. He was on a 50-60 HR pace this year which is obviously not realistic but 25-30 is.

Ha, touche, but seriously, a 24-year-old in Double-A ball manages to hit 25 jacks. Yeehaw. I can't say I was thoroughly impressed with the rest of his minor league resume, especially his BB/K. He doesn't have the power to overcome the plate discipline he lacks.
