THE NEWS Padres outfielder Brian Giles filed for free agency on Thursday, the San Diego Union-Tribune confirmed. The team has made an offer to Giles, but agent Joe Bick said the proposal was "not close."
Our View The 34-year-old Giles was a fantasy stud before moving from Pittsburgh to San Diego, and we'd certainly like to see him play in St. Louis, Boston, Oakland, or just about any other city. Brian's .301 average and 38 doubles suggest he's still a capable batsman, and he could be a bit of a fantasy sleeper depending on where he ends up.
What do you guys think about his value now? Not only is he moving out of San Diego but he gained CF eligibility.
just looking for some thoughts....

If he lands in the right spot, he could be a great asset to your fantasy team. However when drafting, always remember not to jump too high for him because if he turns out to be a bust, you'll have a long fall down.
So basically, he'll be pretty good but don't overpay for him.
I see giles playing very well no matter where he goes. He was playing in the pits. He still gets on base very well and now that he won't be robbed of some power maybe some of those 2b and 3b will be homers.
It would really be way too bad to see Giles leave. The Padres need to at least give Giles a respectable offer, although I wouldn't give him more than two years and I think he'll want something longer.
I'm pretty sure he's ATL bound. Brian and Marcus have wanted to play on the same team forever, and the Braves don't want Brian Jordan as their every day RF.
If Jones and Furcal leave, it makes even more sense.

I thought they had some guy named Francoeur to play RF.
Oh and when is Jones leaving? Chipper or Andruw? I doubt either will be leaving anytime soon.

I think anymore than 3 years would be a big mistake I have to think STL is the #1 suitor after SD. I also think the Red Sox might get involved.

I agree. The Braves have plenty of young players to play OF and trading either Jones would be a PR nightmare. Besides they would be better off spending their money on re-signing Furcal or improving the pitching.
