Just to compile what the Sox will/have/need to do this off-season....

Few of my opinions:

Sign

Theo - How can you let a top GM who led the Sox to their first title in 86 yrs go...he obviously did something right

Timlin - Maybe a 1 yr deal, I dont see him having much left. Although he was a solid set up/closer pitcher last yr, he let a lot of inherited runners in.

Damon - Not sure of his asking price but 7-8 mil a season doesnt sound too bad to me.

BJ Ryan/Wagner - Need a set up/closer (if Foulke is out). See if one of those two would be willing to set up for a playoff contender.

Olerud - Still has the defensive skills and wasnt too bad with the bat either. Let Millar go as well - waste of money.

Bullpen help - See Wagner/Ryan. Desperately need to upgrade this part of the team.

Anyone else have anything to add?

If we can get Damon for $7-8m a year, that'd be great, but from what he's been saying it seems he expects to get at least 4yrs/$40m from someone. I think i might go as far as to pay exactly that, but that'd be my absolute limit. I could see this turning into a Bernie Williams type contract for someone though.

Definitely keep: Theo, Timlin (done deal).
Definitely let go: Millar, Mueller (i think it's now or never for youks).
Don't be held to ransom over: JD

I'd be happy to keep Olderdude around as a backup if he'd accept that. I quite like the idea of Millwood as an FA starter who's already in the AL, but he probably stays in CLE. I don't think we go after Burnett hard, and he probably ends up in Baltimore.

Perhaps Guardado on a one or two-year deal if we can't get Ryan or Wagner? I don't particularly like the idea of Wagner anyway.

A lot of next year depends on Curt and Foulke. If both are healthy (and we somehow manage to cheer Manny up) we can make a real run at winning it all. If only one, or neither, full rebuild mode might be forced upon us. Of course, we probably won't know this until too late.
