mods, regardless of which way you go with these, can we a least get some assurances that public policy debates can stay open even when politicians are under discussion, so long as we can keep subdued the "Bush is a Liar" and "Clinton's a druggie" non-contributory posts?
for example, I'd love to have a decent SCOTUS discussion here in the very near future.
I don't think they've ever cared about discussing public policy as long as parties and specific names have been left out. I would assume that's unchanged.
Basically, I can't speak for the others but just don't be an idiot. Use common sense. If you need to think twice about what you are posting, keep it to yourself. People can either use the extra rope to make a blanket or they can use it to hang themselves. The choice is yours.
Just a general statement. Not aimed towards you in the least.

OK. a SCOTUS discussion will be riddled with names by necessity, especially after I watch the hearings on CSPAN, but it should be easy to keep it constructive as long as comments address senators' words and not their person.
We will do our best to just remove worthless and insulting posts, but if they become far too many in a thread, the thread will just be shut down. Best way to keep the thread open is to ignore the boneheads that just want to name call and start problems.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Sounds good to me.
Rugby, looking forward to hearing your perspective on the nomination process.

I'm prepared to intelligently discuss.
glad she is gone to be honest ...
sometimes I am not so sure Dubbya really gave up the 'ol juice, but I just know that when he throws that dart again, he'll win a little Journey Mirror.
