Thoughts?

Edit: not so much focusing on this year's stats, but his total potential/production so far in his career

Wood has had four solid fantasy seasons. You might be able to give Beckett 1 and a half.

If you mean in the sense that they are both potential filled pitchers consistantly derailed by injuries, then it makes sense.

Beckett is a much better "pitcher". Wood's injury problems have been far worse and he's still just a thrower.

I'm going to agree with Yoda here because they are similar in that they are both injury prone but as pitchers I would say that they are different. Wood just throws the ball extremely hard while Beckett is more of a complete pitcher. If you want someone to compare with Beckett I would say that Prior is the best comparison. Both of them are extremely high end, well-rounded pitching prospects who have had fairly extensive injury problems at the beginning of their careers.

True, Wood may be just a "thrower", but in a fantasy sense it works in his favor.

Beckett, while he may be improving as a "pitcher" (evidenced in his w/9, h/9 dropping in each of the past three seasons), has also seen his k/9 drop in each of the past three seasons.

I'd prefer Wood's "throwing" over Beckett's pitching over a full season.

Hmm... Aside from the Ks, I don't see any evidence why you would take Wood over Beckett. Beckett pitches in a more favorable park, his career numbers are more consistent, he is younger and has had less serious injury problems.

I might be a little biased since I had Wood on my roster for 4 years (except I avoided him like the plague in 05).

I would agree with this had Prior's injuries been a result of exclusively throwing the ball and/or his mechanics but if you look at his injury history, he's had bad luck more than anything. Beckett, on the other hand, has oblique and blister problems which are entirely related to pitching.

Well...I said over a full season so I was implying that if the two were both healthy for the entire season, I'd take Wood's throwing since he'll fetch 50 or so more strikeouts, the wins are about a wash, and the other two are pretty even with Beckett having a slight WHIP edge.
