The Pirates informed Jose Mesa that they would pay a $500,000 buyout rather than exercise his $4 million option for 2006.

This makes Gonzalez a trendy pick later in 6x6 leagues with Holds. He is always solid with his ratios, will collect a number of holds (if he isn't the closer) and saves if he is the closer.

No surprise about Mesa there. I'll be interested to see who is named closer, should they name one, in the near future.

Seems like a "wait and see what happens" situation with the Pirates. It could be Torres, Gonzalez, or an unknown pitcher who takes over the closer's role in Pittsburgh. I'm going to wait until the season starts before I pick a Pirate's closer, hopefully the situation will settle itself by then and a valuable fantasy option can be chosen.
