According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Red Sox have offered Manny Ramirez to the Mets for Carlos Beltran.
Beltran still has six years left on his contract while Ramirez has three. Ramirez is owed $57 million including a $1 million bonus if he is traded, while Beltran is owed only $42.5 million over the next three years. Since there are not many center field options via free agency and with Johnny Damon's insistence on a five-year deal, the Red Sox would probably love to pull this off. Oct. 20 - 10:06 am et

Wow. I really can't see this happening at all, and I think the Mets can get him cheaper if they tried. Manny is the better hitter of the two, but he is also older, more brittle, and a hell of a lot more outspoken. It would allow the Mets to bring Cameron back to CF, but I'd like to get Manny without giving Beltran. I wouldn't mind trading Milledge though.
I'm not overly worried, I'm sure we find out there was little substance to this rumor in the upcoming days.

I'd be extremely happy if they could pull this off. Unfortunately there probably wouldn't be enough left over to help the pitching, which is what they really need to do.
Id be surprised if this went through. Beltran has has one year (terrible at that) and can only move up next year. I dont see the Mets giving up on a promising player like Beltran, though Manny is one of the top hitters in the game. I think Beltran's value rises if he heads to Boston while Manny's value takes a dip in New York but either way, I dont see this happening.

Beltran's value in Boston rises vice last season, but there is no way it goes back to his Houston/KC days. With the Sox he will be lucky to steal 20 bases.
This would be a very interesting trade and as a Beltran owner in my keeper league I would definitely like his upside on the Red Sox (anything to get him out of Shea). I have to say that I slightly disagree with those that are saying Beltran wouldn't run at all. I'm not saying he will steal 40 bases but I could see 20-25. The Red Sox pick their spots and look at stats. Most players are lucky if they are successful 75% of the time. Beltran has the highest success rate ever at 91% for his career. I think the Sox might let him run more than you would think. Just a thought, could Beltran hit leadoff in that lineup?
Just the thought of Beltran, Renteria, Giles and Ortiz backtoback is scary.
