Baldelli Projections for 05

What do people see for him for next year?

Based on these facts...

1. His knee should be near complete recovery thanks to the intervening elbow injury

2. The Rays are trying to sign him long-term, indicating a believe that his two major injuries will not have an effect next seasons

3. It is unlikely that the Rays new manager will like to run as much as Pinella

4. The Rays will have a pretty good offense overall, offering some protection and more R and RBI opportunities

...I project something like .290/20 HR/15 SB and 90-100 Rs and RBIs depending on where he hits.

In opther words, Randy Winn.

Does anyone have additional thoughts?

he may do even better than 90-100 runs and rbi

I'll expect something like his '04 numbers with him getting better and better as the season goes on. I probably won't draft him unless I can get him late in the draft. He might be a guy to trade for after the all-star break when he should be getting back into the groove of things.

Don't pump Randy Winn up that much. He has never gotten more than 81RBI in a season, only more than 87 runs in a season once and this last year was the first time he has hit more than 14 hr. Winn doesn't do .290 20 100 100

Good point, by comparing him to Winn I meant more the BA, SB and HR cats.

He's definitely someone to target and i expect to hit lower in the order anywhere from 4th-6th (Julio-Crawford-Cantu seems like a lock to me). He may have more reason and try to run hitting that low in the lineup so I see something along the lines of .290 20hr 90rbi 15sb 90runs.

I was extremely high on the guy before injuries starting piling on. But all of you so far are still believers in Baldelli.

I'll make sure I keep him in the back of my mind on draft day.

Cantu's OBP wasn't good but how do you figure Crawford's was horrid? The league average in the AL last year was .326. Crawford was .331. Nothing special but definitely not horrid.

Baldelli was a sleeper last year, a sleeper for next year. I'm going to try to get him very late in my keeper league draft.
