SB's and E's?

Postby KoopaTroopa211 » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:54 pm

If someone attempts to steal a base, and only manages to steal said base because of a defensive error (ex: the 2nd baseman drops the throw and the runner slides in well after he would have caught it), then does the runner still get credited with the SB?

I'm not quite sure how you worded it but I think it would be credited a SB.

I'm not 100%, but i'm pretty sure the answer is no. It's similar to a runner beating out a grounder that the SS bobbled. He wouldn't have made it if not for the error, so it doesn't count as a SB.

No, I don't think it would be, because if you score it an error than you assume there would have been an out at that base. I'm not sure, though. :-?

Depends on the official scorer but most times they give the runner the SB.

I'm not completely sure, but didn't that happen in one of the White Sox/Angels games when Iguchi tried to steal 2nd? The throw beat him there but it was dropped and rolled into the outfield. I vaguely remember them saying the scoring was a CS and E.

For instance last Thursday's Cards/Stros game. Ausmus takes off from first and Yadi has the pitch go off his glove for a PB. Ausmus is credited with a SB anyway.

Just off the top of my head, I believe this is correct.

IIRC, if the umpire signals out and changes it to safe it becomes an error and isn't a SB.

My apologies. I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.
