Where do you work out?

Wanted to get a feel for where those of us here who work out get their lift/cardio on.

For me it's the Gold's here in Charlottesville. Before I moved down here in February I was doing all my stuff at a rinky-dink place in my hometown. At Gold's it's amazing though, the equipment is top-notch and the facility itself is much more than I'm accustomed to. Plus the complex I live in has a deal with the gym where the sign-up fee was waived, so I got that going for me. $32 a month isn't too bad either.

Anyone else a member of Gold's? Bally's? Curves (for those female members here at the Cafe)? Anywhere else?

You live in Charlottesville? I went down there over the summer to look at UVA. It's a nice town and the campus is real nice. In regards to your post, I work out at a privately owned gym that has changed ownership like 5 times in 5 years, but I get $10 a month and all the equipment is decent.

School gym, has above average weights (85% machines though) and great cardio equipment.

$25 a semester.

YMCA - great equipment as well as clean locker rooms and a swimming pool/basketball court.

I'm a member of three gyms myself

A Bally's about a half mile from my house... that's my main gym because I can jog up and back- that's what passes for cardio for me

I also work on two different college campuses for my job- ASU Main and Chander/Gilbert community college, so I have a membership at the gyms on both campuses. I'm a busy guy- I usually work out on my lunch break several times a week and before work the other couple days.

Weekends I always tell myself I'm going to work out but I always sleep in instead

YMCA - great equipment as well as clean locker rooms and a swimming pool/basketball court.

Same here (north of Boston). There are all the usual gym chains up here (Golds, etc.) as well as several independent gyms/health clubs/racquet clubs, etc., but I've checked most of them out, and they are not nearly as good as our town's YMCA.

It's got everything I and my family could need, and more. And it's MORE affordable than most others in the area.


It may not be the same in your town, but it's worth checking the local Y before committing to another club.
