Anyone read: The last night of the Yankee Dynasty

Postby NY Yankees Fan 2004 » Sun Oct 16, 2005 1:55 am

I was talking about the Yankees with a friend and he recommended that I read the Last night of the Yankee Dynasty by Buster Olney. He gave me the book and I started it Yesterday.

So far I have found it to be a good book and it really shows the big whole hole that the Yankees are in and why it is not Cashman's fault. He has been getting blamed too much lately. I would recommend this to all Yankees Fans and other people as well.

The book has been out for awhile

I've read it. It's interesting but my favorite part was the epilougue. That's the part that really digs into the recent moves the Yankees have made and what has gone on behind the scenes.

Most of the book is just profiles on certain players throughout the 1996-2001 run. Good read though. ;-D

Thanks for the suggestion I'm working on Mind Game right now which has been a pretty good book so why not jump across the rivalry and read one from the other side as well. I do respect a lot of the writing that Buster Olney has done so I think it sounds like a good book.

Is Mind Game a baseball book, if so, what is it about? I really enjoyed Moneyball and I enjoy baseball theories and discussions, so I'd be interested in any baseball books that you guys can recommend.

I'll pick up a copy of that Buster Olney book too ;-D

Jury,

Mind Game is a book about the Red Sox World Series run last year. It's written by a lot of the guys who work for Baseball Prospectus. It's interesting because it's a novel that takes you threw the entire year but the only continuity to it is that it's written in chronological order. The different articles are actually articles that have been written on different statistics by the guys at BP. I only have about 50 pgs left but I've found it to be really interesting so far. I hope this helps.

The Yankees are in a hole? They won the AL East despite having a pitching staff that collapsed into a pile of sawdust within the first month of the season. And they will no doubt sign another load of free agents this offseason.

I wish MY favorite team were in the hole the Yankees are in.

Of course, I haven't read the book, so I won't make the Joe Morgan mistake of blindly bashing it. But from the description, it sounds like another sportswriter overreacting to the Yankees not winning the World Series every single year.

Is that accurate?
