Bill Simmons new book

Postby dannyolbb » Fri Oct 14, 2005 1:21 am

Has anyone read it yet? I just got my copy today and am impressed. I like having a hard copy of his work so that I can loan it to friends who would never take the time to read it online.

I was shocked to see that you guys didn't sign a black free agent until 1993. How does that happen? Bizarre. I knew you guys had turned down Mays and Jackie, but I thought that ended with Yawkey leaving.

Anyway, it's good so far. I just wish I didn't live in the middle of nowhere so I could have had it autographed during his book tour. Good luck next year, you guys. If my team doesn't make it, I'll be rooting for yours... since it pisses the Yankees off so much.

What's the name of it?

I knew about the black FA thing. Alot of black FAs have said they don't want to go to Boston for that reason. They had that racist label over them for a while. I think it's pretty much gone now though...

"Now I can Die in Peace: How ESPN's Sports Guy Found Salvations, With a Little Help From Nomar, Pedro, Shawshank and the 2004 Red Sox."

It's really funny. I haven't read most of the pre-2002 columns before, so much of this is new to me.
