His bat is ready and this is a way to get it in the lineup and slowly break him into shortstop at the major league level.

Hopefully the new GM and manager agree! :-?

I like that idea. ;-D

Where would you guys draft Upton if:
1. They give him the SS job.
2. Give him a different position.
3. Keep him on the team with no guaranteed job.
4. Decide to call him up at the All-Star Break.

Sorry...I'm a big Upton fan...just trying to see where everyone else is. :-D

That being said his best chance to land with the big club is a switch to 3B. But Upton has recently said he will not move from SS, so that is pretty much out the window. IMO he will try and work his butt off to look great for ST and a chance to stay with the club. However that probably won't work and he will be in AAA to start, though I think he will most likely be up after the All Star break.

Didn't his agent get involved too .. Tampa tried to move him to 3B and they both (Upton and Agent) got involved and said no way.

Not to hijack the thread, but I think the same goes for Delmon Young and all the Tampa talent waiting in the wings. I do wonder how with Pinella leaving if they'll finally let their young studs play.

Tampa Bay isn't going anywhere again next year so I think they move Lugo over to second , Cantu back to third and play Upton at short. They need a third baseman and Cantu fills that need. I also read somewhere that Upton was working with a former shortstop but I forget who. And that he was going to play winter ball. Its my gut feeling he shows a huge improvement on defense. And TB will start him at short right out of the gates.

with all the changing in the tampa organization lately,,, i have a feeling that we will see upton and young in the majors early this year.... maybe young at midseason due to his lackluster play at AAA in august, but i think both will be in the majors for good this year.....

I remember reading after all the changes took place iin the front office, that the plan was still to keep Upton and Young in AAA to start the year.
I imagine if they have offensive seasons similar to the ones they had this year, that they won't spend much time down there.
