Games can't start at 9. It would interfere with our games. East coasters prefer to watch East coast teams. West coasters like to watch West coast teams. And who knows what those freaks in middle America like to do. Not really all that strange.
East coast bias is a myth. ESPN paid more attention to the fact that the Padres were one of the worst playoff teams ever than they should have. The Angels have been getting a lot of media coverage too. I think this is a self-inflicted chip on the old shoulder.
Mookie, the Blue Jays are on TV in the states.
Still a good read though. Any piece that makes me want to reach through the screen and strangle the author has done its job.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
The Angels are getting media coverage because they are in the Playoffs .. thats the only reason.
and the Padres are getting media coverage because they almost broke a certain NY based teams record for futility.
I don't quite grasp the point the article is trying to make. The West Coast games are on at late in the East Coast to cater to the local residents in California that want to watch the games at aprox. 7-8 PM. Why should they schedule to try to make the game more watchable to out of market viewers, that in most cases probably don't care. And I swear the ESPN Sunday Night baseball has the Angels on every other week, so it's not like they don't get any national coverage.
Say what you will about 20% attendance is Californians blah blah blah...the truth of the matter is they look at going to a game like going to a picnic. "Oh shucks, we lost. We'll get 'em tomorrow." Passionate fans, they are not. And that's the bias-and it's a justified one.
And considering the pop. of California, is it any wonder that a large number of players originate from the state? How about throwing percentages out there?[/i]

Passionate fans, we are too. Maybe not in Oakland
Let's look at fan attendance shall we?
1. NY Yankees
2. LA Dodgers 3. St. Louis
4. LA Angels 5. San Francisco 6. Chicago Cubs
7. San Diego
Yeah, we aren't passionate ... we just aren't as notorious as Yankee, Red Sox, Cardinal, or Cub fans.
