best all around imo would be mauer... has all the tools defensively and offensively to be a great catcher for the next 10 years... i would also look out for one brian mccann in the next few years as smoltz bragged greatly on his defense and game calling and he showed a little pop in the playoffs as well....

To me right this minute it is a toss-up between B Molina and Varitek. Lots of other good, solid candidates out there as well. Next year, I'm thinking with his knee problems further behind him and some type of increase in power output, I will be answering Joe Mauer for the same question.
