When I use Windows Media Player to rip cuts off a CD, I usually don't have any trouble. However, I was sick of ripping them into WMA files, so I changed the tool setting to MP3. But now, when I try to rip a track I get this:
Windows Media Player cannot rip the track because a compatible MP3 encoder is not installed on your computer. Install a compatible MP3 encoder or choose a different format to rip to (such as Windows Media Audio).
My question -- where do I get such a compatible MP3 encoder?

Yes download the newest version of MEdia PLayer...I think its 10. Also, download a codecs pack that may make a difference. Just do WMP's newest version and that should work fine.

I'm running 10 with no luck, how do I get a codecs pack?

First I'd recommend reinstalling 10. It should work works fine for me.
if that doesn't work go to http://www.free-codecs.com although I think its mostly for DVD, .AVI, DIVX stuff. But still a good site to have in your quiver.
