Tim Kurkjian said on ESPN radio that the last team to do it was the 1983 White Sox. Maybe he meant AL, but that's not how I interperetted it when he said it.

I researched each answer starting with the most recent, and indeed, the 1988 Mets highest qualifier would have been Kevin McReynolds at .288.

I will award rob the point. And I will not listen to Kurkjian anymore

What about the 2004 Yankees? They led the American League in victories with 101 and their leading hitter was Matsui at .298
