Pogotheostrich wrote:I'm surprised Figgins was so low. Problem with the system is that you don't quantify the differences. Say someone leads all 2B with 40 HR and the next 2B has 25 HR and the next one has 24 HR. You credit the same amout for 15 HR as 1 HR. To get a better idea of where everyone stand you need to find a way to show those differences.

Took your comments to heart and revised the approach slightly. If each player's output is prorated according to the maximum output in each category (e.g. Soriano hit 35 Hr which is the maximum and he is attributed 1.000 pts, while Reyes who has 7 gets only 0.200 pts)

The results are somewhat different and may accord more closely with people's perceptions:

1. Soriano 5.15
2. Kent 4.65
3. Roberts 4.54
4.Figgins 4.35
5. Utley 4.31
6. Reyes 4.23**
7. Cantu 4.22
8. Lopez 4.13**
9. Giles 3.98
10. Biggio 3.93
11. Iguchi 3.70
12. Hall 3.63
13. Polanco 3.48
14. Belliard 3.46
15. Durham 3.41
16. Cano 3.35
17. Ellis 3.32

What does he have going for him? He is in one of the worst offenses, plays at a pitcher's park, and can't stay healthy. His OBP has dropped 3 years in a row. His SLG% has dropped 4 years in a row.

I'll give ya the Healthy
But they are talking about fixing the fences in Wasington, and that offense isn't so bad. I'd gamble they will be even better next year, after FA's ..

I realize that he hasn't done a thing since Vlad left, but he is still a .300 hitting 2B with some pop. Of course he hasn't done that this year, which is why he has fallen off the 2B map.

He has sleeper written all over him.

I just don't see sleeper. I see a 31 year old with a bad knee and declining numbers. I'd rather take a chance on someone else.

Yeah. Given how thin 2B is and how good he is when healthy, he can certainly be a great sleeper for next year. Depending on how your draft shakes up, might want to grab one of the less proven 2B (maybe like F Lopez or Polanco) from the list to go along w/ him for insurance and then trade one away if both does great.

nice call on vidro, wrveres. hard to predict his numbers, but i could see him bouncing back nicely, and if you can get him for cheap, i'd do so. i don't think i'll plan on having him as my day-1 starter, but as a high-risk, high-reward backup? great pick. ;-D

anyhow:

Soriano
Kent
Giles
Figgins
Reyes
Polanco
Utley
Cantu
Lopez
Iguchi
Roberts
Biggio

meh. this just feels like a really tough group to pick. so many good newcomers on the way up (utley, polanco, figgins, reyes, cantu, lopez, iguchi) while so many established vets decline (giles, kent, biggio)... i think soriano is about the only player up there i'm confident in, but then i draftd him for the 2004 season and didn't quite get what i was expecting, so.....

edit: i thought reyes had enough games at 2B this year to qualify for next?
