I was reding an article on ESPN about Lep mazzone and I saw this tidbit:
Perhaps the greatest tribute to Mazzone is that so many of his colleagues are willing to share their enthusiastic praise of him, often at great length. The only significant exception to this was Braves manager Bobby Cox, who refused repeated requests over a two-month period this summer to talk about Mazzone. Perhaps, with rumors swirling that George Steinbrenner might soon be making Mazzone an offer he can't refuse -- to replace Mel Stottlemyre as the Yankees' pitching coach -- Cox didn't want to make Mazzone look any more attractive than he already does.
I hadn't heard that one yet, but I do like the idea.
There was a thread about this in the Braves forum a while back. I checked it out, and all I found was denial from Mazzone and the Yanks, for what that's worth. I'll believe it when it's true.
That would be great! I just hope that he is paired off with Torre and not a new manager. George seems to be growing a short trigger finger this year and Torre might be gone. Maybe Mazzone will fix what ails RJ.

Baltimore, according to one team source, has in interest in Atlanta Braves pitching coach Leo Mazzone, a close friend of Perlozzo, but does not want to proceed until Miller's status is determined. The Orioles may face stiff competition for Mazzone. According to a source, the New York Yankees have asked for permission to speak to the pitching coach. The Braves, according to the source, have granted a small window for the Yankees and Mazzone to speak. If the Orioles have serious interest in Mazzone, they may have to force a decision from Miller[who is the O's current pitching coach]. Perlozzo said he planned to visit Miller this week.
Honestly, with way the Yanks treated Stottymyre, I wouldn't be surprised if he said no to a 10,000,000 yearly contract. Who needs all that excess baggage from Tampa.
