I've never seen it happen before, and part of me would have wanted them to wait it out and finish it to the end, but they had every reason to call it, so I can't really argue.

Speaking as a Cubs fan, even if they did tie it up, they'd find some new creative way to blow it.

Well, I know that nobody wants to see a player get hurt over one out in a game that's theoretically over, but a 58-minute delay seems like an awfully short time to wait before calling a game.

Don't they usually give delays something like 2-4 hours before calling the game?

Would you have waited at a game for 2-4 hours for only one more out to be played in the game??

I sat in front of the television for 58 minutes hoping to see that last out. For God's sake, I actually watched an episode of Becker!!! So I guess the answer to your question is yes.

It may a little crazy, but some of us who hang out here are actually fanatical about this game that we call America's Pastime.

Well, all I can say is that Eckstein almost biffed on his face twice trying to make that last out, and just before that Molina almost took a foul ball in the face trying to make the last out. It's not as easy as it looks when it's pouring down rain, the wind is whipping, and the field is crap.

Conditions were horrible, the field was deteriorating, and the umpires probably wanted to give the hitting and fielding team a chance to do what they needed to do without the weather deciding the outcome. I thought it was OK of them to do it.

The did the right thing in calling the game. The Cubs had already made 4 outs that inning. It would be unfair to the Cards to force the game to continue.

Agreed, especially since the Cards also have more guys on the field that can get hurt.
