Okay, so they called the Cards/Cubs game last night with the Cards leading 6-1. However, the Cubs had loaded the bases with two outs. Back-to-back jacks tie game. Now, I haven't heard one complaint from either side, so I'm sure there's no controversy over the decision, but I have to ask:
Can anybody remember a game that was called when the losing team had the bases loaded?
Just seems like something that wouldn't happen too often.

Well, I know that nobody wants to see a player get hurt over one out in a game that's theoretically over, but a 58-minute delay seems like an awfully short time to wait before calling a game.
Don't they usually give delays something like 2-4 hours before calling the game?
Once they put the tarp on the game was over. The rain wasn't going to stop. Just get another out. Why play half the game in the rain and then call it with one out left?
It was getting to be a joke! The last batter popped up and Molina lost it in the rain because it was raining so hard. Then he hit a routine grounder to Eckstein that when he planted to throw him out, he almost pulled a hamstring slipping in the mud. It was too dangerous to continue.
I agree with Pogo, Its one simple out. I know Molina and Eckstein both had chances to get the out and screwed up but its one out, its eventually going to happen. I know it was raining hard but I would think the chances are pretty low of a player getting seriously injured by just playing in the field or running the bases with 1 out left in the game.
I think they would have played on if the game meant anything - but it didn't. The Cards have a 100% chance of making the playoffs and the Cubs a 0% chance. The game is essentially meaningless. Why risk injury?
I live west of Chicago on the other side of Illinois and I can attest that the rain wasn't gonna let up any time soon.
Although a late game rally by Chicago would've been sweet, I can understand why they called it. I'm sure STL didn't want to lose a guy to injury and not have them for the playoffs. I was at a Cubs-Cards game two years ago and they played through the rain for 4 innings before it was called. Eli Marrero slid on the wet grass and tore his ACL. Neither Dusty or LaRussa were too happy that the game was played as long as it was then. What a game it was though! 10-9 at the point it was stopped. Pujols hit a grand slam. The wind was blowing straight out with gusts up to 35-40 mph! BP was insane.

Would you have waited at a game for 2-4 hours for only one more out to be played in the game??
Pujols, Sheff, Carpenter, Delgado... all the way to the top!
