Was listening to the local sports talk show around here and they said 2 of the 4 baseball card companies are getting out or are out. Fleer sold to Upper Deck for 6.1 million, had over 30 million in debt. Don Russ didn't renew its license with MLB for next year or some such. And he mentioned that Topps was looking for someone to buy them.

Heres a quick hint to Topps and UD. Make the freaking hobby accesible to kids again.

A bit surprising, but not too much. They charge a fortune for cardboard, but the market is flooded.

Exactly.

The market is way too flooded with high end product. 50 billion inserts and sub sets out there (ok, maybe 51 billion :-b

). Enough is enough already. Make collecting simple and affordable again. B-)

Packs shouldn't have to cost $6 for a 1:24 chance of pulling a $10 game used card. It turned me off from the hobby for a while. Now I just buy singles off eBay.

I hear Topps is going to decrease the amount of sets, but increase the amount of cards per set if that makes sense.

Actually it does. More rookies and minor leaguers, more packs to buy to complete the set, but less of each card availiable.

Can't believe I'm going to say this, but sounds like a good move so far. Final determination will be the price per pack. If it stays reasonable, then I give it a thumbs up. If they charge a premium, then I consider it a bust. We'll see. B-)

Sadly, gone are the days where you could go to Thrifty's with two quarters in your pocket and get one pack of Topps and an ice cream cone.
