Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't it be normal for people that live inland, to head for the coast during their holidays.

You live in Eastern Iowa Never really would have guessed but nice to see someone here around where I live. Oh and I've seen both the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean once each.
I'm about 6 hours from Galveston Texas, so I see the beach somewhat often (when I'm not looking at all the other eye candy anyway. ).
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
I live about 30 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico, and about 5 minutes from Mobile Bay, so I've grown up on the water. Strange to me that a lot of people have never had the experiences I've had with boating, hurricanes, luscious coconut oil tanned chicas, etc.
On the flip side, I've always wanted to play in the huge snow drifts I see on TV and movies. I hear they suck to clean up after, but I've never seen more than a half inch of snow at one time in my life. I want one goooood snowball fight......
Well, I frequent Florida and have basically been on the Gulf side most of the time, but this year I went to the Boca area and was on the Atlantic side, which was good also. I can't really remember the difference, but the gulf seemed nicer. Maybe it's better than no beach, but I think the Atlantic ocean in the northwest over here is just horrible, like Big Ken said. There's nothing nice about it at all and it's usually just seaweed and really dark, cold water. I'm 10 minutes out from a beach being on Long Island, but I definitely don't enjoy going to any of the beaches around here.
I live a couple hours from the Atlantic now (although the Chesapeake is close) but I grew up 10 minutes from the beach in NJ. It's funny how much I took for granted just being able to go jump in the ocean on a boring afternoon. Crazy when people see the ocean like once every 30 years or whatever - the thought of living more than a few hours from the ocean is not so good.
