what is your playoff rotation?

Postby j_d_mcnugent » Tue Sep 13, 2005 1:24 pm

ok, so carp and mulder are locks for a spot.

over the season suppan has been pretty average but he has been pretty darn good recently and seems to do well facing big name pitchers. he seems like a lock to start in the playoffs.

morris started out good but is struggling lately. he is a veteran, which tony likes. he has pitched in the playoffs before. marquis stunk for a long while but now looks great. wasnt great for most of the playoffs last year but ended up pitching the best game from a cards starter in the world series.

so who gets the nod?

Tony seems very loyal to Morris. Unless he completely implodes I think he is in the playoff rotation.

Seems pretty obvious to me:

Carp
Mulder
Morris
Suppan

The only hitch is that I - personally - would start Suppan over Morris right now. Soup is just too good in the clutch. Just have to hope that the error bug doesn't stay with him through the post season.

"Matt Morris is part of our postseason rotation," La Russa said. "He was never out of it."

I think I've seen maybe a half a game in the last three weeks, but that would be my four as well. Marquis coming out of the pen or maybe even a pinch hitter or something would seem to make the most sense right now.

I'm in the mood to continue my rant on Morris starting #3 this post season, so I thought I'd share these stats:

Matt Morris
1st Half: 10-2, 3.10 ERA, 6 HRA, .246 BAA, 1.07 WHIP
2nd Half: 4-8, 5.32 ERA, 16 HRA, .301+ BAA, ~1.50 WHIP

Jeff Suppan
1st Half: 9-7, 4.21 ERA, 14 HRA, .298 BAA, 1.49 WHIP
2nd Half: 7-3, 2.78 ERA, 10 HRA, .246 BAA, 1.26 WHIP

It's almost like they switched bodies after the All-Star break.
