With Matsui likely being resigned by the Yanks, and Trevor Hoffman with the Pads, and extensions likely being excercised on Jason Schmidt and Jose Guillen and Clemens either re-upping with Houston or retiring, I think you have to go with Damon, Burnett, Rafael Furcal, Paul Konerko and Billy Wagner being the only 5 real intriguing free agents this year. There are some #3ish starters mixed in there too but aside from some big trades that could happen it doesn't make for much of an off-season.
I guess BJ Ryan isn't a big name yet, but anyone know just how likely he'll stick w/ the Birds -- and w/out officially entering FA? I know the Rotoworld article predicts he'll stay, but it doesn't offer much details on why that prediction nor whether they'll complete contract talks w/out him filing for FA.
FWIW, I did post the question over in Injuries & Player Updates a while ago, but nobody seems to have any insights.
you gotta think baltimore would make a pretty good effort to keep ryan around. that said, if philly loses both wagner and urbina, you could see them making a strong push for him as well. the braves will be interested, but i don't forsee them going out hard-and-fast for a closer, even if they lose farnsworth.
