This may be the thing that does me in with my main roto league. I need major run production in runs and rbi's to pull out a victory and he was the cornerstone to that. I dumped all my speed guys (Ichiro, Crawford, etc) knowing that I could end up losing a point or two there to gain 3 or 4 points in runs/hr's/rbi's and Sheff was one of my pickups. I just better hope this isn't serious.

In a trade about 2 weeks ago in the main league I'm playing in this year (at least the one I want to win more than any of the other ones).

I dealt all my speed (Ichiro and Figgins along with Billy Wagner) to a guy that was positioned to get about 4 or 5 points in sb's for Sheffield and Tejada. So far the deal has been wonderful for both of us...I've moved up a total of 5 points in the standings between runs/rbi's/hr's (especially in the rbi's area) while he's moved up about 4 points in sb's and may actually take one point from me there. He's the 4th place team though with no hope of catching me or the second place team so it's great for both of us.

If Sheffield goes down though I'm in deep crap. This was a VERY deep team thanks to great trades moving closers for offensive depth but between the trade I mentioned above and a blockbuster trade where I brought Pujols and some extras to my team for Blalock, Beltran and Crawford most of that depth is gone. With rumors of Pujols missing a week down the stretch and the possibility of Sheffield out I would be in serious trouble and counting on offensive production from guys like Barmes/Adkins or whatever I can scrape off of the FA list. I've got a 92-86 lead at the moment but it's one of those roto leagues where every category is so close that people can gain or lose 3 or 4 points in a day even at this point in the season.

Yankees outfielder Gary Sheffield left Wednesday's game with the Devil Rays after suffering an injured left hamstring and is being listed as day-to-day.

We'll provide more information on Sheffield once it is released. It doesn't sounds like he'll miss much time, but fantasy owners should be ready to deploy a backup outfielder until he gets back on the field.

Hopefully it's true that he is day to day..

The New York Daily News reports that it probably will be a couple of days before Gary Sheffield (OF) NYY is able to return to the starting lineup, though he may be able to pinch hit this weekend. Sheffield is nursing a strained left thigh muscle.
