Zimmerman gets the start at SS

Postby jskidder » Wed Sep 07, 2005 7:28 pm

Ryan Zimmerman is starting at SS tonight for the Nationals. Keep an eye on this in keeper leagues. The Nats were toying with the idea of him playing there in AA before he got the call. If he gets eligibility he could be a top NL SS next year. And even without it, he is still worth owning as a 3B in keeper leagues. He was just added to the Yahoo universe as a 3B today.

O ya ain't this the kid from Miami Hurricanes? Anyway I remember being kind of a big guy, his physique doesn't seem much like a SS's would. But I guess anything is better than Guzman.

here ya go. he just got drafted in june so its not a huge sample size, but he has done very well so far in his pro career. the nats are very high on him and he will be a fixture in the lineup next year.

he is actually a virginia cavalier. and yes, at 6'3" 210 he is big for a ss. he has a tremendous glove though.

I live in Charlottesville so I know a fair amount about Zimmerman. He's an excellent 3B but as a SS---not so much. He played the position in HS but he's a much better 3B. Kid certainly can rake though.

And how much did Jim Bowden sign Christian Guzman for and how long? Wasn't it like 6 mil a season for 2-3 years?

Money well spent.

I'd like to see this kid play everyday down the stretch given the offensive struggles of the left side of the infield for Washington. Is there really any point in playing Vinny Castilla, Christian Guzman, Deivi Cruz, etc over him at this point? If there is, I sure don't see it.
