i just found out about a foot injury... what happened and will he miss much time??? i need to know... he has been having such a great year...

NOOOOOO!!!!! I just dropped Vernon Wells for another player b/c the trade deadline is passed and I was convinced Griffey would be healthy until the end. This is not good. The guy is on pace for his first 40/100 season in a long time. I hate to see him miss it b/c of an injury.

The Reds are playing down outfielder Ken Griffey Jr.'s latest injury, claiming he is day-to-day with a strained foot, but other sources beg to differ. An unnamed source told the Dayton Daily News that The Cincinnati Reds center fielder actually pulled part of a tendon off the bone, "Potentially a serious situation, potentially a season-ending injury," Griffey wants to play and finish out the season, but as the source explained, "if the tendon tears completely off the bone his season is over."

You didn't actually have money riding on him making it through a full season unscathed did you? What is remarkable is how his other injury issues have flown under the radar since he's playing well this season. Following the season, he'll become a pin cushion, having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after the season, surgery to fix a hole in his leg left over from his hamstring surgery last year that seeps, and his newly injured foot tendon will have to be repaired. He is capable of playing through these injuries for the four weeks of the season that remains, but his fantasy owners should temper their expectations.

I don't get why websites like Rototimes and CBSsportsline say the injury is day to day when they don't know for sure. He was having such a great season too...that's a shame.

Griffey's still at least a couple more days away from getting a chance to notch another steal, though he has begun testing his strained right foot.

During Tuesday night's game, Griffey ran in the tunnels underneath Great American Ball Park at 60-70 percent intensity, according to head athletic trainer Mark Mann.

"He felt good," Mann said. "No problems at all."

Mann dismissed a report in Wednesday's Dayton Daily News that Griffey might be done for the year.

"I don't know where this report came from, but he has a strained foot," Mann said. "We're going to progress him over the course of the next couple days and see how he feels this weekend."

Mann said Griffey will continue to run and hit in the cage. The team is hoping to have him back in action as soon as the weekend series against the Pirates.

"At this point in time, we fully expect him to play again in the '05 season," he said.
