Although a few weeks ago I would have begrudgingly have given it to Clemens, right now I think my choice would actually be Carpenter. 20-4 191k's 2.28ERA, that's pretty nasty. Yes, Clemens has been absolutely superb, but Carpenter is right there too with 9 more wins and 30 more K's.
You know its going to be Carp. You all know how the voters think, they think 20 Wins is like incredible and probably think thats a better achievement than a 1.57 ERA. Clemens should most definitely win and if he got the run support Carp does hed have more than 20 wins and less than 4 losses probably. But the voters put way too much emphasis on W-L records than the more important stats.

yeah its ashame roger will lose to an less talented player, who will never come close to having a career like the rocket.
Hot Chick Draft: 1.01: Scarlett Johansson 2.12: Mila Kunis 3.01: Malin Akerman 4.12: Britney Spears 5.01: Jessica Simpson 6.12: Penelope Cruz 7.01: Tera Patrick 8.12: Christina Milian 9.01: Cameron Diaz 10.12: Lucy Liu 11.1: Jamie Lynn Sigler
The thing that puts me in Clemens' corner is that if his team had gotten him even 1 or two runs in like 8 games, he would have one each game. If doesn't win the Cy Young it will be because of the Astros offence and not his pitching.
Yes Clemens has the lower ERA, but I think this award can still go to Carpenter without too much fuss.
This year Carpenter has 7 Complete games, 4 of which are Shutouts. Clemens has 1 Complete game, no shutouts. Per game pitched this year, Carpenter on average pitches one inning more per game.
Also, Carpenter has a better K/BB ratio than Clemens along with 30 more innings pitched (roughly). So yes a 1.57 ERA is fantastic, but Carpenter has some great supporting statistics too.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

I fail to see how Roger having a better career effects who should get the award. Last time I checked the award wasn't for a fantastic pitching career, but for having the best pitching season in your league

ok so what stat is better HR or total bases?
ur comparing apples to oranges some stat categories mean more than others and ERA is the most important. Clemens is BETTER than Carpenter, there is no way you can honestly say Carp is better than him.
